Anna's Inside Scoop with David Mackie

Updated: Mar 3, 2022

One of the best things about ZooLab has got to be working with an incredible team! Each month, Ranger Anna will interview a member of the ZooLab family.

This month we will be speaking to administrator, David Mackie!

Hi David, how long have you worked for ZooLab?

I have worked with ZooLab for just over 5 years.

What is your role within the company?

I work in the Admin Department and responsible for looking after our North and South West Ranger's diaries.

To put that into perspective, David looks after the diaries for everyone below - no mean feat.

What is something you love about working for ZooLab?

The end of the day (kidding, honest)!  I love the people that I work with and that everyday can be completely different!

At ZooLab, as you pointed out everyday is different! Can you think of a day which was completely out of the ordinary for you?

I once received a phone call from what I thought was a customer, saying:

"Hi, it's Cara from the Sugar Glider Tank!"

I was about to ask Cara for her postcode to find out where the venue 'Sugar Glider Tank' was, when I realised it was actually my colleague Cara who had gotten stuck in our sugar glider enclosure... Once we worked it out, we went to her rescue!

Tell us a little about yourself! What's your favourite food?

I love seafood!!! I'm a big fan of chips with curry sauce, as well.  In fact anything with curry sauce.  Hmm, there's also steak pie. You know what?  I just love food!

You wake up and get out of bed, now what? What do you do to prepare for the day?

I must have a cup of coffee in the morning!  I'm like a different person without it.

What are some hobbies you have?

I am actually quite boring.  Does eating, watching Netflix and going to sleep count as a hobby?  My dog Ziva has taken over my life!

If you were an animal, what would it be?

A meerkat - only because I think I look like one - or a penguin, they are hilarious! You are stranded on a desert island and can only bring 3 things - what are they?

My phone, a knife and a hammock. What is something you're really proud of that you have accomplished?

I have managed to make it to the age of 29!
