The ZooLab Bug Hunt

EYFS, KS 1, 2; Early Years, First, Second Stage.

Ages 3 - 11

DURATION: 45 mins - 55 mins

OVERVIEW: We all know that children are more active when they play outdoors; it is essential for their healthy development and enjoyment of childhood.

This spring/summer, why not book our flexible outdoor learning experience and get your children out of the classroom and into the playground or your local greenspace. ZooLab’s expert ranger will take your children on a bug hunt, as they discover for themselves the myriad of wonderful creatures that live just out of sight of our human world.

It’s all about the thrill of turning over a log or stone to find an exotic-looking centipede, a family of woodlice or even a frog! It’s a chance to compare creatures they have found to other minibeasts from around the world.

Why learn through play?

UNICEF states that “play is one of the most important ways in which young children gain essential knowledge and skills”. This is particularly important during the Early Years/ EYFS stage where play is one of the main ways children learn, particularly while with their peers.

The benefits of learning through play does not stop at increasing knowledge of the subject area - play encourages creativity, enhances fine motor skills, increases attention span, nurtures imagination and helps to make sense of the world.
